Congressman Ben Ray Luján Visits Stolar’s Research Laboratory
Congressman Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) toured Stolar Research Corporation’s laboratory during his recent visit to Raton on January 7. He was briefed on the extensive manufacturing, software and testing capabilities of the company. Stolar is of particular interest to Congressman Luján because he sits on the Committee on Science and Technology as well as the Committee on Homeland Security. He is also the Vice Chair of the Subcommittee on Science and Technology. He has passed legislation that has funded scientific research at Los Alamos National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories.
Congressman Luján and Stolar have discussed the goal of providing better technology through scientific research for border protection, counter-terrorism and clean energy methods. Stolar’s state-of-the-art technology focuses on these important topics, which are current challenges to our state and nation. The Congressman shares Stolar’s desire to recruit math, science and engineering talent for the state of New Mexico. Incentives for students to pursue careers in science, technology and engineering are of extreme importance.
Founded in 1983, Stolar Research Corporation is a research and development company specializing in state-of-the-art radio geophysics. Stolar is responsible for the development and manufacturing of proprietary products that use electromagnetic radio waves in various applications pertaining to coal mining and the extraction of oil and gas. Stolar holds more than 40 patents relevant to this specialized technology. Stolar’s major markets include the coal mining and energy industries and the Department of Defense.
Congressman Lujan recognized that Stolar’s ability to remain competitive while keeping its laboratories in Raton. New Mexico is attributed to the fact that all steps of the process from conception to marketing, including design and manufacturing, take place within the facility.
